The soft wind brought several scents to Melody's nose, which was lifted into the breeze, trying to find the scent of another. All she ofund was the dried up scent of gas, the stuff the humans had used to make their cars run. She found that it was quite boring here, and didn't quite remember why she had even came. One look at the pavement reminded her, the sun.
Staring across at a store in front of her, Melody considered investigating, thinking twice about it, finally deciding not to. She was comfortable, her legs splayed out in front and behind her, fully enveloped in shade. It was quite relaxing, and she felt like a royal someone as she lay there, waiting for something exciting to happen. But, knowing this place, there was most likely going to be nothing more exciting than the wind blowing, or someone dusting off anything. But then again, you never know.

Bella walked cautiously over to the abandoned gas station. The wind was blowing softly and it cooled the Border Collie down. She was tired. She had been running for just the pure fun of it, but now she was exhausted. She sniffed the air and shook her head. Gasoline. That smell bothered her. She didn't have any bad past with it, it just didn't sit right with her.
Bella made her way to one of the old pumps and sniffed around, looking for any signs of a male. Nope. Her ears perked and she sniffled the air again. There was someone else here. Bella's curious side kicked in and she trotted off in the direction of the other dog. She spotted a husky sprawled out on the ground. She cocked her head and walked a little closer. Bella craved someone to talk to, and here she was.
Hello. She greeted the other dog. Hopefully, this one was friendly and would at least return the greeting. She wouldn't blame her if she didn't, though. Bella's coat wasn't the best looking.

Duke yawned and stretched in the warm sun. He had just woken up from a little nap. And now, as he stood up a scent wafted into his nose. Faes, two. His ears perked up and his tail flew into the air. He loped of at a medium speed, his ear flapping out behind him as he did so. As the scent grew stronger he saw the two faes. "Well, Hello there." he said sitting down. His ind was rushing with ideas of what he could say to them, then he remembered. He's a brute, and they are faes. His face felt hot and he lay down, so as to show them he meant no harm whatsoever.

The scent of the female came through the gas, the border collie entering her view moments before she spoke. A soft hello was spoken, an innocent word that told Melody almost everything. This female wasn't dangerous, nor was she thinking of attacking. She was just curious, interested in what Melody was going to do. And, the scent of slight dissapointment. Melody figured that she had been searching for a male.
"Hello. My name's Melody. Yours?"
Melody was trying to be as polite as possible, even though her thoughts had been interupted. Then, a new scent was brought into her nose, that of a male. He seemed innocent, too, and as he lay down, Melody figured that he was also of no harm. Just a male trying to find some friends, she figured. Noddnig to the male, she figured that he had heard her name, and he would ask if he hadn't. Sighing, Melody rested her head onto her paws again.

Bella's ears perked as she caught the Husky's words. Her name was Melanie. She lowered her head slightly and suddenly a new scent flooded her nose. A male. She glanced over to see a Lab laying down, showing he meant them no harm. She smiled at him and then looked back at Melanie.
My name is Bella. It's nice to meet you both.
She said and looked at the Lab again. He seemed nice enough. She sat down on her haunches and sniffed the air again. No one else seemed to be here. She relaxed a little bit, not having to be aware of anyone else. She felt safe enough.

Duke smiled. "Melody and Bella, what wonderful names." he commented with a smile standing up slowly. "So, what brings you gals here?" he asked them calmy walking forward to join their circle. He sat there quietly and wagged his tail. A fly buzzed around his ear. it agitated him so much that finally he growled and snapped at it catching it in mid-air. As it was captured in his mouth he dropped it opn the ground, re-focusing his attention on the two faes that were present at the time. His tounge lolled out of his mouth in the heat.

Bella couldn't help but laugh when the male caught a fly in his mouth. It was hot outside and the flies were bad. Bella considered his question and glanced at Melody before looking again at the brute and answering his question.
Just wandering.
It was true. Bella didn't have a home, so what else was she to do? She let her baby pink tongue roll out of her mouth as she panted. It didn't help that she had a black coat. She slid down to the ground and lay there, soaking up the sun and waiting for someone else to speak. Her ears remained erect and attentive, as usual.

Melody let her tongue roll ot of her maw, like the other two dogs present at the time. She was indeed hot, and the temperature was rising, even in the shade and while it was still autumn. Since when had autumn taken on the summer's heat? The question went unanswered, and Melody flopped to her side, her vision filled with the two dogs still. "Same here. It gets pretty boring in the city if you have no friends." Her fur was keeping in the heat, as it was made to do, and she wasn't intended on being in this kind of weather. Of course, when a hot day hit her, Melody's fur began falling out, and it didn't stop for a while. And when winter came around, her fur grew back when spring began, making her feel the cold months before feeling comfortable again. Ugh. Life.

Duke smiled as one of the other dogs present laughed. It made him feel happy inside when he made someone else laugh, even if it was at him. "Wandering eh?" he asked them. "Well, the three of us have much in common, Am I right?" he asked panting. His coat was short and it was lightly colored, so it reflected some of the heat, but he still felt the impact of it. His gaze drifted up to the sun above them. He squinted as he saw waves of heat that blurred his vision. He looked down, his eyes still scrunched up. As they grew used to the usual lighting they opened up again.

Bella smiled as Melody flopped onto her side. She wanted to join her, but her nature wouldn't let her. She was too alert and attentive. She smiled over at Duke as he said they all had something in common.
"Guess so."
Bella breathed and finally gave up and fell onto her side. Her sides heaved with her panting and her ground was brushing the ground, but she honestly didn't care. Her tail swished once as a fly landed in the black fur, but other than that, only her chest was moving with her breaths. She looked up at Melody and Duke and smiled.
Sure is hot, isn't it? She stated the obvious. Even in the shade the heat was pretty bad. The ear that wasn't pressed against the ground was still erect and listening to both what Duke and Melody were saying and anything that might be coming their way. She inhaled deeply through her nose and again the smell of old gasoline and cars filled her senses.
The Border Collie closed her eyes and just lay there, waiting for one of them to say something. She shut them tight enough so that within a matter of seconds she was seeing lights. She opened her eyes again and smiled at the two of them.

"Hotter than it should be in autmun." Melody stated the obvious, as well, her eyes trained on a broken light fixture on the ceiling of the gas station. The glass was gone, and the light was dangling precariously by a wire, which had frayed and was seconds from falling. If that. Melody slowly slid back on her side, her paws pushing her away from where the light was to fall. Moments before it did, she escaped.
The light crashed down with a loud bang, the metal rim denting from the fall. The remainder of the glass on t was broken, shards laying all around the light as it circled, then stopped. "That was close." Melody laughed, standing as she did so. Shaking herself off, she found that a shard of glass had landed on her fur, and as it fell onto the ground, even that broke into thousands of pieces. It was like a domino effect, sort of. One piece breaks into thousands, those thousands into millions, and those millions into billions, until the pieces were microscopic, and you weren't able to see them with the naked eye. It was an endless cycle, and as the humans had did, they melted the glass, which eventually broke, and started all over again. In truth, it was all VERY confusing.

Duke smiled. "Yes, it is hot... But, lucky me, I've got short, light colored fur." he laughed and his tail wagged. "I know!" he replied to Melody. "It's alot hotter than it should be at this time...I can't wait until the winter." he smiled, then, noticing that Melody was moving, he looked up just in time to see the light. He jumped to his feet just as the light crashed to the ground. "Woah...that was close." he said with a frown. "Should we move somewhere cooler? And safer?" he added with a laugh. He gazed down at the ground and the glass glinted in his eyes and he looked away. He sat down and waited for the two faes to answer his question.

Bella nodded thoughtfully at what the two were saying. It was way too hot out to be autumn. Her thoughts had taken her away somewhere, thinking about the heat and something else that she wasn't really paying attention to. Then the light crashed.
Bella jumped to her feet in mock horror and she backed up quite a few steps. Her nervous personality wasn't ready for that. She yelped as she jumped and she watched the glass shatter into a million shards. When the loud noise subsided, she breathed heavily and looked at Duke and Melody. Melody said that was close, and Duke said the same thing. That was an understatement. It was too close. She couldn't help but think that they could be dead right now. Well, injured at least.
Duke suggested that they go somewhere safer and cooler, and Bella couldn't agree more. She shook her coat, making sure there was nothing in her fur. She lowered her alert ears and relaxed just a hair. She was still nervous that something else would fall and impair one of them. She shuddered at the thought and shook her head again. Yeah, that might be a good idea. She said and looked around, trying to think of a place to go.
