It's a thief in the night, Focus lay in the sand, his head between his paws, his eyes dropping shut. It was so much that he was tired, but just peaceful. It had been far to long since he'd felt this relaxed. His gaze was fixed on the body of water in front of him. The moon was high in the sky, and the water sparkled from it's reflection. There was a cool breeze coming off the ocean, but it was a decently warm night for autumn. Normally just going down by the beach at this time of year was freezing.
Focus felt totally out of it, his mind drifting over different thoughts. His moods changed with his thoughts, but he still felt relaxed the whole time. Everything felt perfect and right, until a scent filled his nostrils. It was so strong, it burned the inside of his tiny muzzle. He raised his head, his tiny ears perked up. His eyes followed the source of the scent to the top of the beach. He let out a high pitched bark, and sighed as he noticed how pathetic it was. Who goes there? He called out.
to come and grab you.

Tiny paws bounced along the beach, carrying a small form across the sand. Pitbull blood ran strong in her veins, giving her the appearance of a strong built male puppy, without the strong scent or rage filled eyes. A black maw licked her chops, the sight of a juicy peach sitting above her. Lowering her body, Envii readied herself to jump, only to lose her concentration when a male voice rang out. Who goes there? It was definitely male, a small one at that. He was probably a purebred, by his defined scent. Envii, curious as always, led her eyes across the beach, searching for the source of the dog. There he was, a small papillion no larger than herself. What a joke! Instantly, Envii wondered if the creature was light or dark. "Hello?" Her paws carried her to where the dog was located, and she plopped herself down in front of him, staring intently into his dark brown eyes. They were bottomless, empty orbs that sat fathoms under the surface. "Hi. What's your name? I'm Envii. Are you all alone here? Where are you from?" A parade of questions emerged from Envii's black muzzle, and she sat patiently, her head cocked to the side slightly.

Focus lay his head back down between his paws when he saw it was only a pup. Not some massive dog looking for a fight. As she drew closer, her relaxed a bit, knowing she was no threat, by the way she carried and presented herself.
As she sat down beside him, a long line of questions flooded out. He closed his eyes and sighed as she spoke. Is that all you do, ask questions? He huffed, but figured he'd answer her, seeing as she was only trying to be friendly. I'm Focus, pleasure to meet you. Well I'm not alone anymore, your here now. Where am I from? Well here I guess. He glanced around, he knew his old home was only a few miles away, then the pound had been even closer, and the island he lived on after that was just off the coast. Yes I am from here. He reviewed his answer in his mind and confirmed that was correct.
Focus studied Envii and noticed she seemed to have Pitbull in her. She seemed big for her age, which suggested she'd be strong when she was older. Great, another dog to mock me.

Envii was very pleased that the small dog was talking to her, he could have instead walked off and never looked back. He was kind, for a male. Unlike her past encounters, when Envii had been told to shove off, in a more ignorant, rude manner.
"You know, I've never met a Papillion before. Even though I've only been alive six months, still." Envii was desperately trying to keep up the conversation, fearful that she would be left alone in silence once again, even though there was still someone in front of her. It had happened so many times before, no one wanted to deal with a tiny pitbull female puppy, especially not larger males who would rather be wasting time with a female in heat rather than a female too young to continue on their family. Phht. Most males were like that, she realized, and most of them were two or three years old, in their prime and wanting to fight for life. Envii never wanted to fight to defend pups. Hell, she never wanted pups. Never in her entire life would she want to deal with a few squirming, tiny, fluffballs that sucked the life and energy out of her. NEVER. But she knew that she wouldn't think the same in a year or two. Hell no. She would want as many pups as se could squeeze out of herself. She chuckled at the thought.

Focus sighed and nodded. His eyes glanced up to hers, making eye contact with the pitbull pup. Why am I not surprised? He sighed again, his tiny body shaking quickly as he did. Being this breed, it's not fun kid. There are hardly ever any other ones like me. Gets sort of lonely after a while. His voice softened.
Focus snapped back to attention, not wanting to be a downer, or to show weakness. Weakness was what made his kind get stepped on, and looked at as lap dogs, rather then real dogs. Enough about me. Tell me about yourself kid. Focus would do anything to drive the attention off himself, even listen to a twelve hour long story about someones boring life. Not that he minded listening to her's, things were normally interesting from a pups point of view.
Focus kept his eyes on Envii the whole time, showing he was taking her seriously and was paying attention. He knew when your were a pup, or small like him, other canines tended to just ignore what you were saying, like it didn't even matter. Who cares, their lose right?
