Crystal let out a loud yawn and stretched her forepaws in front of her. She stood up straighter and padded down the forest path, following the sound of running water. The sound drew closer the more she walked and she could almost taste the fresh water in her mouth. She stepped out of the forest and into a small clearing with a large waterfall in the middle. The mist from the waterfall sprinkled her body, cooling her down as let out a gentle smile. What a nice place, she thought as she strolled over to the water and lapped some up. The fresh water quenched her thirst and she felt amazingly better. She had been lost in the forest that she just came out of for the past few days, so she was parched. She chuckled darkly to herself. She'd never had much of a sense of direction. The soothing sound of the waterfall filled the silence as the young border collie laid down near the pond. She let out a gentle sigh. The waterfall was a nice fill for the silence, but she really wished she had another dog with her to share this peaceful place. Her brown orbs looked over the area once, but stopped when she saw a bush of some kind. Did it just move? Crystal sat up and watched the bush closely. She knew she saw something, she just knew it. "Hello?" She called, trying to keep her voice even. She pricked her ears, ready for any kind of reply.

Sandy slowly crept out of the bush. She couldn't believe that she had been spotted. She had been so careful not to break any twigs! She looked shyly at the other dog. "Hi." she said meekly. She was slightly embarresed that she had been discovered watching the female. Somewhere on Sandy's back she felt a twig entangled in her long fur. It itched very badly. Sandy began to slightly shake in front of the dog, the want to itch was so bad. Suddenly, Sandy sat down quickly, turned her head so it was over her back, and began to frantically chew at the itch on her back. Soon she brought her head back facing the pretty black and white dog, the intruding twig grasped firmly between her jaws. She smiled, looking comical with the twig in her mouth. Sandy threw the twig through the air with a flick of her head. Behind her, she heard a small crackle as it hit the ground somewhere in the woods. She looked quickly back at the border collie, giving a slight wag of her tail.

Crystal gave a small smile as a snow white dog, a fellow femme it seemed, walked out of the bush. At least I was right about someone being there, and I'm not losing it, Crystal thought somewhat proudly. "Hello," Crystal responded when the other spoke. She seemed friendly at least. That was good, Crystal was one who didn't like to make many enemies. She gave her tail a quick wag as she shifted her weight to the left side of her body, finding it more comfortable this way. Silence filled the air a moment as she waited to see who would speak first. Her looked up at the sky to see dark clouds forming. Rain maybe? She took a quick whiff. Yep, the sweet scent on rain filled the air, threatening rain. Hazel grew tired of the quiet and spoke. "So. What is your name?" Crystal asked, tipping her head to the side with polite interest. She didn't want to seem impolite, she might as ask a simple question. She wondered over to the pond and took a small drink of water before lying back down and watching the femme. She kept her smile up and and her ears alert as she listened for her reply.

Sandy looked at the sheepdog quickly, and looked back down to the ground. She figured it was going to rain soon. She liked rain, getting wet, feeling the rain slowly trickle through her fur. The only thing she didn't like was the fact that she smelled like wet animal afterwards. "I am Sandy. Who are you? Sandy looked down at the sand lining the creek. She had always loved sand, it felt good when it seived between her toes. It tickled.

Crystal ears twitched at the white dog responded. "Pleasure to meet you Sandy, I'm Crystal." The border collie responded. She gave her tail another quick wag and yawned. She always grew tired when rain was near, she never understood why though. She mentally shrugged to herself and focused her clear brown gaze on the waterfall. How pretty, she thought. She gave a small frown as she realized the water would soon be overflowing with rain. She watched as a white object fell from the top of the falls and fell into the pond. Her eyes twinkled with interest as the object floated in the nearby water. She looked around her once as the white thing floated closer. She wadded into the water until the water reached her chest. "Almost there.." Crystal muttered to herself. The object floated just a few paw steps away, but the collie didn't want to get her head wet. She sighed and padded out of the pond as the wind blew the object farther into the pond. She let out a sigh and shook herself off, managing to get most of the water out of her fur. She brought her attention back to Sandy and gave a smile. "Sorry, so how are you?" Crystal said, her eyes flickering back to the white object in the water before meeting Sandy's.

The white dog saw the white thing float into the water as well, but unlike the border collie, Sandy wasn't afraid to get wet. She tightened the muscles in her strong hind legs and catapoulted herself about 15 feet into the pond. Her toes stretched out, exposing the small bit of webbing. This helped her swim stronger by making it seem almost like she had flippers. In a few short strokes Sandy had reached the white object, grasped the damp thing in her mouth, and paddled back to shore. Her hind paws scrabbled for purchase on the sand when she reached the edge of the pond. Soon, her paws sunk deep into the earth, and she hoisted her soggy form onto the land. Sandy released the object from her jaws, walked a few steps away from the border collie, and shook herself, flinging water in all directions. When her fur was adiquetly dry, Sandy padded back over to the other dog and looked down at the white object. "What is that thing? Sandy looked up to Crystal with a quizzical expression on her face.

Crystal flinched back as Sandy shook herself off. Crystal's fur was damp, but she wasn't eager to become any more wet. She took a step closer to the white object and lowered her head to get a better look at it. It was white and seemed shapeless. She took a sniff of it. It had no smell; of course not, it was just soaked with water. Crystal's head cocked to the side and nudged it with her maw. "I'm not sure," Crystal responded to Sandy's question. Should she bite it? She wasn't sure if that was safe, it could be poison. She nudged it harder with her maw, and it turned over, exposing tiny paws. Crystal shallowed back the whimper that rose to her throat. It had to be some kind of creature. What could she do though? She shot Sandy an unsure look then focused her attention back on the creature in front of her. She lowered her head again and pressed it to the creatures small chest. A very soft, but quick heart beat was barely noticeable. "It's alive.." Crystal whispered, her voice came out sounding more like a question. She looked back at Sandy as her ears drooped in worry.

The samoyed pup looked down at the creature at her feet, she could care less if thing survived or not, but Crystal seemed to want it to live. I guess I should push on it's chest, like that human did when I almost drowned that one time. Sandy lowered her head toward the small creature and pushed her nose hard against its small delacate chest. Nothing happened. A flash of irritation showed on the white dog's face, as she was upset her idea didn't work. She didn't want to give up however. She pushed her black nose harder against the animal's chest, trying to get it to breathe. In the back of her mind a flurry of doubt began to grow, if she pushed too hard, she could break it's small ribs, but if she pushed too soft, it wouldn' thelp at all. Sandy pushed up against it a few more times. Finally she stopped and looked down at the creature. She couldn't believe it when its small chest began to rise and fall on it's own. A small stream of water flowed from it's mouth and nose, and it made a small choking noise. Sandy looked up quickly at Crystal, asking with her eyes what she should do now.

Crystal's drooped ears perked up some as the creature began to breath. The creature did have a chance at living. The creature choked and cough a moment, its tiny voice hoarse. Crystal sat down to watch; there wasn't much she could do. Crystals paw tapped the ground nervously. She didn't know why, but she she really wanted the creature to live. She waited patiently for the tiny creature to give some movement indicating if it would live or die. The creature's small eyes slowly began to open. A surge of hope rushed through Crystal. She lowered her head and sniffed the damp creature. The smell of rabbit was easier to recognize now that he was drying. Crystal straightened up and cocked her head. They were helping a rabbit? She shrugged, and padded off to the forest and picked a few leaved from random bushes Is that what rabbits eat? Leaves? She wondered as she carried the leaves back in her mouth and placed them in front of the tiny creature. She looked up at Sandy, unsure what else the rabbit might need.

Sandy watched Crystal pick the leaves, confused at what she was doing. When it finally hit her at what the she dog was doing, a lightbulb seemed to turn on. Lots of times when I was stalking rabbits I have seen them eating... eating... CLOVER Sandy jumped up and ran into the nearby thicket, found a smallish patch of clover, picked up a mawful (it tasted pretty nasty) and ran it back to the sorry white pile of soggy fur. She lowered her head next to the rabbit and opened her jaws. Most of the clover spilled out onto the ground, but some was caught beween her teeth. Sandy ran her toung along her teeth a few times, trying to disengauge the stubborn leaves, but they wouldn't budge. The taste seemed to be perminant on her toung. Sandy let her toung loll out and shook her head, trying to rid herself of the horrible taste. This only succeded in sending small flecks of green foam flying in all directions. She finally ran to the water's edge and lapped up some water. This stilled the nasty taste for a while, but it soon came back. It wasn't as bad now, so she chose to ignore it. Sandy stopped and looked down at the small rabbit, which had now crawled to it's feet and was smelling the greens the two dogs had presented to it.

Crystal's white tipped tail wagged a bit as she noticed the rabbit struggling to sit up. Crystal bent her head and helped the small creature sit up. The rabbit's eyes remained closed as it wobbled over to the clover and ate a few. "Poor thing.." Crystal murmured as she watched it. She nudged the clover a bit closer to it. What else would a nearly drowned creature need? Crystal thought. She looked around the forest for some kind of idea. Her deep eyes stopped at a bird nest and watched as a bird put together a nest. Crystal smiled as an idea hit her. She bounded off quickly to the forest again and took a few more leaves, some dead some not. She carried them back to the white rabbit and carefully placed them around it, hopefully creating some warmth for the creature. Crystal then laid down gently next to the rabbit, facing the opposite direction, her flank pressing against the rabbit for added warmth. The damp creature seemed to catch onto the idea that it was surrounded by wolves by the way it opened its eyes and looked up at them with big, frightened eyes.

Sandy looked down at the pair, They look kind of cute together I have to admit. Sandy debated on laying with them, but decided against it. She simply sat down on her haunches and watched them. The rabbit began to quake in fear of the two dogs that were surrounding it, and Sandy thought it might die of a heart attack. Soon enough, however, the quaking subsided, and it seemed to relax against the side of Crystal. The white she dog slightly envied the quick attachment of the two creatures, seeing the way they had bonded. Sandy had always loved pups, the way they nuzzled against you, looked up into your eyes with such love and trust. She quickly shook the thought away. "It," Sandy's voice cracked a bit with pent up emotion. She quickly cleared her throat. "It really seems to like you."

Crystal's tail wagged a bit. "You think so?" Crystal asked, cocking her head at Sandy. She looked down at the rabbit who had finished eating and curled into Crystal's warm fur. She had to say, she was starting to like the small creature alot. But she couldn't figure out why. She had killed many rabbits before without giving it a second thought, but this one was special. Maybe it was because the sight of the tiny critter in danger was sad, even too sad for a dog. Crystal jumped alittle as a cool drop of rain fell from above and landed on her nose. She licked it off and looked up at the cloudy sky. She cursed under her breath, she had forgotten all about the rain. She sat up straighter as a few more drops fell down and predicted it would be a heavy downpour. She sighed and gently picked up the young rabbit by the scruff of it's neck and carried it to a nearby tree. She let the rabbit down and sat down by it. She held back another sigh, angered by the rain. She didn't like water by itself, why must it fall from the sky? She wondered.

Sandy looked up at the sky when she heard Crystal's muttered curses, and felt a drop of water drip onto her nose. She shook her head quickly, ridding herself of the droplet. Staying out in the open only made her more wet as the rain began to downpour. Within seconds, Sandy's fur was soaked and she began to smell like wet animal. She shook herself as she began to run to a nice thickly leaved tree. Water dripped in slowly, but it was better then being out in the open. She shook herself once more to rid herself of as much water as she could. When she stopped shaking her fur stood out in all directions, but the white dog didn't mind. She sat down under her rainproof tree and looked over to border collie and her charge. They looked comfortable under their tree, and Sandy didn't want to bring her wet animal stench over to them, so Sandy stayed where she was. A long yawn escaped her maw, and she laid down slowly onto the dirt beneath her paws.

Crystal watched the rain beating down on the pond. Such wonderful timing, Crystal thought sarcastically. The rabbit by her gave a small squeak. Crystal's head jerked down to the rabbit, a bit surprised. The rabbit seemed to be crying? She started to panic, unsure of what to do as a bolt of lighting crashed down farther away. Both Crystal and the small rabbit jumped at the sound. Crystal let out a whimper, she really hated lighting. The rabbit snuggled into her side. Crystal picked up the rabbit and carried it to the tree where Sandy, who seemed untroubled by the rain, was sitting. Crystal didn't mind the smell of dog, it was hard to ignore when she was a dog, and water was all around. Her tail tucked between her legs as she sat down and released the rabbit. "Dumb thunderstorms," Crystal muttered. Thunder crashed in the sky as the young black and white dog held in another whimper. She always had the worst when she went places. She stood up and wondered to the tree they were sitting under, where she laid down against it. She felt safer that way. Crystal's fur was bristled as she shifted positions and placed her forepaws in front of near neatly, at the same time trying to calm herself down.
