I am a very young man, who while working in the security field at nights, started my own security guard business which I run in the day. I have been in business for about 7 months and I have a couple of issues which I would need some input in.
1. Since starting my business, I have tried to contact property management companies, however I hardly got any responses from these companies or the people who I have contacted in the company. I also tried this with construction companies, however, a couple deals fell through and the operations people noticeable avoided me. I thought to myself hmmmm, what to do........
So I tried special events and special event venues. So far I have had alot of meetings and several inquiries. They are the only people I have met with face to face. I have done two temporary gigs with a hotel, and have also done a gig with a high-end house parties. (mind you these face to face meetings were in the winter).
1. I was wondering if I should turn this company into a full fledge special events and entertainment security company. This means I would be doing, all types of special events, concerts, bars, nightclubs, hotel security, and executive protection. However, most event work is temporary and unpredicatable in scheduling.
Also Due to my beliefs, I am not a fan of alchohol, or drunks, or drunking behaviour. Some of these events could get out of control very very fast with:
(a) Armed Individuals who go to these events to cause trouble, or with the intention of if someone turn.
(b) Macho Men or crowds of people who believe they have something to prove.
(c) Drugs
(d) Sleezy music and performances which make you wonder the direction of where humanity is going. Not all of these evironments are totally out of control as not all music is sleezy, but I think most people will get what I am saying.
(e) Voilent drunks.
I really don't feel comfortable in some of these environments, however I wish to be successful in business. In this section of the industry, I have been less judged by my age (possibly my skin color) and the fact that my business is still a sole propertiership (soon to be incorporated when I renew my license). I first wanted to do a full residential type security business-- guards for condo's,hotels, senior homes- etc, just to avoid the liability that comes with high risk areas, but after being shut out by the big wigs of the industry, I thought it was a lost cause to try and convince the boards of old people to give a young man their contract, when it seems they are typical stereotypical people..
I really would appreciate some insight on what to do? Should I still hang in there and wait for a low risk facility deal, or go after special events?
