Decker crouched low stalking his prey, crawling & tip-toeing quietly along the rows of carts as he followed the fat juicy rat scuttling here and there with a chunk of something that looked tasty. Decker wasn't sure what he'd enjoy more a nice rat dinner or the piece of whatnot it was carrying home, he could have picked it up anywhere but Decker was sure it was still good as the rat stopped every five or six paces to take a bite and nibble it before dashing off again.
Decker finally had him cornered, when all of a sudden a huge clanging noise shattered the silence and his rat escaped leaving the tiny half-eaten morsel for the safety of a hole in the wall. Turning around to see what had caused such a cacophony of sounds Decker noticed another pile of rats had just tried to pull something out from underneath a roof tile eventuating in the tile falling into a garbage bin that had then fallen over itself onto the ground. Growling angrily over his lost dinner, Decker picked up the morsel quickly before the fat rat could come and claim it and padded gently over to the bin to see if it contained any nice surprises eating the insubstantial tid-bit on the way.
The bin didn't contain any surprises though just the same old boring garbage papers and plastic that had been degrading long before he'd got here. It slowly dawned upon Decker whilst he sat there looking miserably defeated in his search for food that he was lonely, he had to laugh at the idea as all he'd ever dreamed of as a pup was to be left alone now he had his wish it all seemed empty and hollow... how did that old saying go?.... be careful what you wish for. He disliked all these depressing thoughts and quickly began searching for something to take the edge off his hunger and distract him from his own depressing mood, perhaps a nice cheeseburger or hot dog surely one of these carts or stands held some sort of tasty treat he had yet to experience.

Tiera had decided to move from the river, she was getting cold and hungry, she cautiously padded past the store, but the scent of food caught her highly sensitive nose, she just couldnt resist, she cautiously stepped inside, one paw shortly followed by the other, she didnt see any signs of life, she slowly padded through the store, head low, tail between legs, she looked around nervously, her thin black and white body quivvering, she noticed an old meat counter, it still had a few remains of sausages and hams, she went over and jumped up onto it, wolfing down the last of everything, a sudden crashing noise startled her, she jumped down and scrambled under the counter, peering out she saw a group of rats running away, she breathed a sigh of relief, but then just when she thought it was safe for her to come out, she heard the unmistakable scrabble of paws on the floor not far from where she was hiding, she knew she wasnt the only dog in the building, she pushed herslef under the counter further, until she couldnt go anymore, her whole body pressed agaist the wall, she kept her eye on the small gap she had wriggled under, listening as the clatter of paws got closer

Decker had searched all the carts and stalls out in the street and found little of any value to him, so he'd entered the store to investigate there didn't seem to be much in here either though. By himself he walked quite proudly the clatter he made as he walked was merely due to his inability to walk on polished isle floors, even if they were old his nails seemed to clatter on concrete in the same fashion so there really was no use trying to hide as everyone could hear him coming even the street rats.
Though he didn't seem to mind his furry chest puffed out as his nose hit the ground once again in search of food, he smelt the vague aroma of ham and sausage and raised his nose to sniff along the edge of the counter, where he picked up another scent but didn't pay much attention to it yet as there seemed to be no-one around for miles he was quite relaxed, it he had sensed the black and white greyhound he would have immediately flown into defensive mode but as it was she had a full view of what Decker was like without fear.
Leaping up onto the counter and then off again as he scoured the surface and found nothing of value he began searching shelves reaching up on his hind legs to search the high shelves, there was still one shelf he couldn't reach though which seemed to aggravate him he sat there a moment watching a brave rat run along the edge and stop mid way to check him out. It was the fat rat he'd been stalking earlier, deciding this rat wasn't going to get the better of him Decker watched him crawl along the edge a little further still out of reach as though he were taunting the chocolate brown Kelpie.
Suddenly Decker seemed to snap he took off down the aisle before the Rat had time to blink, Decker leaped up onto the adjacent shelving knocking it over with a loud crash as the wood and metal hit the floor, it was a little late for the rat though by the time it started to run back to safety Decker had leapt onto the top of the shelf blocking the rats exit. Snarling viciously Decker crept along the shelf daring the rat to go elsewhere as he hunted it down, the rat made one last attempt to dash between Decker's furry paws but Decker snatched it up in his jaws in a second the rat still had the upper hand though biting down on Decker's nose.
With a yelp and a squeal they each bit down harder, it seemed to be a battle of wills and eventually Decker let go, dropping the rat to the floor where it lay feigning death as Decker leapt from the top shelf to the floor skidding on the floor he slipped and fell over but he got back up quickly, licking his bleeding nose. Decker went to investigate the rat who was still laying completely lifeless on the cold floor, pawing it gently he waited for the rat to the move at first it did nothing but twitch almost expecting Decker to try and eat it first. Decker prodded the rat one more time he didn't think it was dead yet and he was right! the rat got to its feet and started running Decker barely had time to recognize the fact that his hard earned meal was heading for the door before he had to run to catch it.
He bolted hoping to catch the dirty little thing before it got to the front doors half ajar, he managed to catch the rat in time but the polished floor made sure he kept sliding right into the door he let out a loud yelp as his head hit the door frame, Decker let go of the rat yet again in his painful state of shock but this time the rat headed back into the rest of the shop. Decker shook his head sleepily, he didn't have the energy for this he needed someone faster and more suited to chasing down prey than he was. "You're going to pay for that my little chunk of takeaway" Decker growled not daring to give up the fight just yet, as his stomach growled louder than it ever had previously.
Panting a little now with the lack of energy, Decker took off once more if he couldn't catch it now he'd lose his dinner for sure. Picking up as much speed as he dared he slipped around the corners of shelving and back towards the counter as the rat looked for anywhere to hide. It shot up under the counter and then slipped away in the darkness to a crack in the wall to live another day, Decker shoved his nose up under the counter sniffing and scratching wildly for the rat to come out. When it didn't come out he leant down on his front to see under the dusty counter, he was more than surprised to see that his little fat rat had turned into a big black and white one "Ohh... Hello" he muttered quietly backing away from the counter startled and a little disappointed "Uhh you didn't see a rat under here did you?" he asked hoping it hadn't magically transformed into the little greyhound now staring at him in the darkness.

she pressed herself against the wall harder, now trying to avoid eye contact, she looked at the ground, she didnt say anything just shaking her head, she gulped nervously and her fragile body began to shake, sinse a dog had tried to force breed her, she had been a nervous wreck around anyone and always tried to hide, she generally kept herself to herself, that way she had no one else to worry about, she watched him back away slightly, she still didnt move, her heart was pounding, her breathing was racing and her body shook again, she wrapped her whip like tail around herself, she still didnt make eye contact, but the whites of her deep hazel eyes were now showing, she looked around for a means of escape, at the far end of the counter was a small gap, only just big enough to wriggle out of, but she couldnt make a move now, he would see and follow her, instead she continued to stare at the floor

Decker seemed confused and the fear he was emanating was clear, his usually pointed ears were flat back against his head and to the side slightly as he listened to everything breath coming from the black and white dog he wasn't even sure it was a dog it looked far too much like the rats he usually chased to be anything canine.
But his instincts told him she was just as frightened even if he couldn't quite see her with his bulky frame, he moved away to the side more to give her room to escape then thought he'd better explain himself incase this was the place she lived. As he'd realized all too soon that he'd barged in after the rat probably scaring her half to death "I... I'm not going to hurt you... I was just hungry" he added keeping his head down low to the ground his tail had slunk back from its usual lofty position to flailing uselessly between his legs as he backed away further bumping into a shelving unit that seemed to startle him further.
He'd never really gotten used to other dogs, he felt no real attachment to anything since the day he'd been thrown in the river to drown, sure he'd been saved by a nice caring dog who pulled him out but he'd met plenty of dark dogs as well in his time dogs that only wished to hurt and bleed those that they didn't like or even know. He was afraid of them to tell the truth but he could defend himself if he had to, he had learnt how after the day he'd been chased into a barbed wire fence by a savage brute that had been trying to chase him off its yard.
He tilted his head to one side sliding it to the floor slowly so he could see under the counter his shiny silver scars from that day showing clearly down the right side of his muzzle. The last thing he wanted was for this dog to reach out and bite him for leaving it alone, it was all about being prepared in his mind if he could tell what was going to happen he could avoid getting hurt.
Decker was trying feebly to defend himself without appearing aggressive but it was getting harder and harder to tell if this quietly quivering dog was going to hurt him or not, he looked up briefly to the door still ajar and wondered if he should just make a run for it. Although in previous days he'd been hunted down and chased like a rabbit so he knew that wasn't the answer better to wait and sort things out here than get caught from behind so he waited patiently and tentatively for some sign that the greyhound also meant him no harm.

she watched him intently, she was too frightened to try and defend herself, she just stayed cowering, she glanced towards the small gap, and the back at him, she watched as his muzzled peered under the counter, he said he wasnt going to hurt her, but how did she know, how could she trust him, she watched as he backed away slightly, she saw her moment, she scrabbled towards the gap, wriggled out and made a dash for it, she couldnt remember the way out, she ran up and down isles looking for a door, not looking back, it was at times like this she loved being a greyhound, she spotted a door wedged half open, she darted through it and found that she was in a small store room, rats scattered everywhere and made for the door, she walked around the room helplessly, she couldnt go back into the shop, the male would simply follow her, she curled up in a corner, body shaking and she quietly whimpered to herself

At first Decker wasn't too fazed, he growled baring his teeth as the greyhound made a dash for it at first he'd thought she was going to attack him but when she ended up in the store room he realised she was more scared of him than he was of her so he felt a little more relaxed, following the loud racket as the rats came scuttling out of the store room by the dozens. Grabbing one in his scarred maw he stepped on another pinning it to the ground as he quickly chomped down on the first, when he finished dispatching the first rat he quickly picked up the second that was busily trying to free itself from underneath his paw.
He took his time eating the second, as he trotted slowly over towards the storeroom door "You know... the way out is over there." he answered as he knocked the door open with his nose then swallowed the last piece of rat meat, feeling alot better now he'd eaten something he turned around and went back to hunting the dozens of rats still trying to find hiding places picking off yet another rat for his dinner. He looked back over his shoulder the rat still squirming in his jaws as he watched the quivering greyhound hiding in the corner, biting down hard on the rats head he killed it chewing a little as he watched curiously deciding the greyhound was better left to herself he wandered towards the front door taking one brief look back at her before slipping back outside to search for something to drink now that he was well fed.

she watched him leave the store room, she got up, still shaking and quietly padded to the store room dore, poked her slim black face around it and watched him walked away, when he looked back at her, she pulled her head back, when she looked around again, he was gone, she cautiously padded out, ears pricked, eyes alert, she padded to the front door, looked out, she saw the male dog sniffing his way around the street, he seemed nice enough, but she didnt know if she could trust him, but thats the way she felt about all dogs these days, especially males, the truth was, she hated being on her own, but found that by being on her own, she managed to stay out of trouble, but the down side was, she had become a shy and nervous wreck, and she needed help to over come that, she didnt know why she was frightened of this male, all he had done was try to help her, she sighed, she watched him wander further up the street, she needed a friend, someone she could trust, she had made up her mind, it was now or never, she whimpered softly to him, hoping her would hear her and be nice enough so she could put her faith in someone

Decker padded around softly looking for any sign of water or of something remotely drinkable, his mouth was getting dryer after all those furry rats and he knew a sip of water would go down well if he could only find it. Suddenly he heard a whimper from somewhere behind and his pointed chocolate brown ears shot up flicking backwards as he started to turn his head they followed as if fixed on the source of the sound.
When he realized it was only the greyhound from the storeroom though his interest sank and he moved off in another direction, great, what could she want? maybe if i pretend not to notice she'll go away. he thought to himself as the direction he chose led him down a dank alleyway that smelled of mould possibly leading to some small water source but then realized he was being a little more rude than he was generally and started back towards the greyhound.
He padded over, careful not to put himself too close or too far away and sat down with a sigh "What is it?" he asked sounding impatient although he wasn't really Decker was more curious as to why a few moments ago she had been too scared of him to even run away and yet as soon as he'd left she'd followed him out here. He wondered briefly what might cause the sudden change of heart from this shivering bundle of nerves but quickly lost interest as he felt his tongue grow even dryer, lolling it out to the side he panted slightly as he waited for a response hoping maybe to draw some moisture from the very atmosphere itself... although he had little luck.
