The dawn had touched the inner workings of the world with a desperate kiss of sunlight, cascading upon the lands bearing gold amidst the pinks and orange of mildly clouded skies above. A glisten from the first blue bird rising to greet the day is caught upon the rays showering the landscape as lead to its melodious gathering. The wood was still silent, following still of the nights emptiness now gathered together in the awakening fauna and rising flora. Trees shivered under a passing breeze as if to also welcome the warming brilliance while below doe led their fawns, freshly shed of their spots replaced with a solid coat of tawny sure to aid in the sheltering from the oncoming winter. The pools parted eagerly at their strides as each individual found peace in drawing cool sips of the aqua below, yet just as the solace had began it quickly ended as each turned rounded auds suddenly wayward. Does wise to their fleeting moments dashed before their dumbstruck offspring setting the youths in motion quickly away from any thought to be danger, yet here there was none, at least, not right then. A full belly met only by a day meandering the city limits drew the she wolf back to her place of rest, not home, but something close to it. The waterfall welcomed her arrival pouring cool touches of the outer edge with which she took eagerly with a shark shake of her coat. The length of her pelt had grown long and thick in wait of the coldest season while her muzzle remained slim, flat, much like her dog heritage pronounced. She, too, found comfort in cupping her lengthened maw into the cool waters for a well earned quench, keeping alert with well trained listeners. Feeling the heat of her innards rest against the calm breeze set in motion by the drink she rose again and looked about her surroundings, surveying her haven before raising to a pitted trot toward the brush beside the falls.
She took pride in her selection of havens, but this one had to be the best, though it was awkward to maneuver she knew that not many would find her unless they were really trying. By then she would be ready for them. The brush thick with brambles and blackberries thorns shackled well to thick tall trees provided only a tunnel opening that many other dogs could only fit a head in without being stung. Here her advantage took presedence, her thick overcoat a shield to their onslaught providing a safe entrance to a well sized burrow dug out long ago perhaps by some woodland creature. With a little work upon finding she, too, found that this spot was a perfect shelter hidden by the overhang of boulders fashioned tightly to the cliffs and the gathering of forest leaves and other things created a cozy nook just for her. Here she smiled, finding that life perhaps had led her in the right direction providing only the best that one such as herself could get. Nestling deep within the dark hole she waited for the further rise of the sun yet knew here she was safe from it, and thus she fell coolly to sleep...but perhaps today would be a day her silence would be interrupted, maybe she for once would meet another among the thick of the wood.
