Gunth The dark night sky gripped the city in its cold starless grasp, wind howling and slashing against the broken human buildings. Clouds moved slowly across the moon, covering the light and letting shadows creep into blackness. Gunth stepped out of the ally, his head lowered, ears flattened against his skull. Gingerly he placed his fore-paw on the ground and yelped as pain shot through his body. The black German shepherd hugged his paw close to his chest, afraid of the pain it might have brung to him if he tried to walk on it. Carefully he limped forward, eager to find something, anything to fill the hunger the gnawed at his stomach. His sharp black eyes darted around, looking for a place where he could eat. Than he noticed the entrance to the dump, his heart lept and he could feel his paws bringing him forward, hoping that maybe he might even find some human junk to chew on. As he pushed his way through a rotting gap in the wooden fence, he noticed the strong scent of other dogs, Gunth ignored it and pulled himself forward. When he emerged on the other side, his eyes lit up, before him where piles and piles of trash, scattered here and there from the bombing. Licking his lips, he padded toward a interesting pile where he hoped to find something. Although Gunth doubted he would find some real food, he thought that maybe if he was lucky he might spot a rat, or some bones that hadn't rotted away yet. Snorting, he nosed a can, it tipped over and Gunth jumped at the loud clanging sound it made. He froze, hoping that no other dog had heard, for a second he thought he saw movment, but he let himeself think it was nothing. Swiftly he looked around, than let himself relax when he didn't notice anything, it didn't take long before he was back looking for something to eat. Even though he had sharp pains in his leg, Gunth wasn't really fully aware that it was bleeding, but at the moment he didn't care, all he really wanted was food.

Cleo ♥ I quietly trotted around the City Dump in Racorn, wander aimlessly through nthe large mounds of food and discarded junk. I was nhungry, yes. Of course, i was always hungry. I was a pup, so i couldn't really help it. But i wished there were soemtimes when my stomach would stop growling. Like when it really needed to be quiet. It never was though. But oh well, i would just have to learn how to go without food for a while. But this simply wasn't working out.
♥ I trotted past several mounds of junk. The smell of food still hadn't crossed me yet. But i could smell dog. Plenty of it. Other dogs i would probably soon run into. If i wasn't careful i would be in loads of trouble! Like i had been plenty of times before. Sometimes i was close enough to being food for other dogs. Every time i thought of this, i thought of that saying; "It's a dog eat dog world". Where had i heard it? Like I could remeber.
♥ Finally coming across the sweet scent of food, i trotted forward, my small paws carrying my tiny frame towards the scent. I halted immediately as i saw a large german shepherd. Wow was that dog big. I couldn't tear my gaze from them, from fear and awe. Would ni get to bne that big? Possibly. I was a rought collie, but my father had been faily large for our breed. I looked down at their paw and noticed a bright red liquid sliding down it. I was shocked.
♥ Not even thinking twice about my next action, i ran up to the dog and yipped out; "Hey! Hey! Your leg is bleeding!" only a split second after i said it i ralized how stupid this action was. My ears went back in fear. If this dog didnt want to be bothered by a loud mouthed pup, then i was in trouble. I wasn't sure if i could outrun such a large animal... but who knows?

Gunth jerked at the sound of the high pitched bark, he had been so busy looking for something to eat, that he hadn't noticed the little pup until that very moment. Startled he jumped backward, nearly tripping over a pile of tin cans. Growling deeply he whipped his head around, trying to spot the dog that had barked at him. Finally his eyes rested on the pup before him, ears laid flat against its head in fear. Gunth felt his heart slow at the sight, this mer puppy was not a threat to him. Grunting deeply, he pulled back his lips in a snarl letting his canines glint in the moonlight. "What do you want?" He growled, ears pitched forward to show his dominance. Although he knew that hurting a pup was not an option, the black German shepherd was angry with himself for getting caught off guard. For a moment all was silent, Gunth stood with his shoulders hunched forward, still in an aggressive stance, though his neck fur stopped bristling. Suddenly he remembered the pup had said something, slowly he looked down at his leg. The males eyes widened a bit when he saw that the gash had deepened and now scarlet red blood was running down it like a steady stream. Even more angry than before, Gunth narrowed his eyes and held his tail higher, waiting for an answer.

♥ I jerked back as the larger dog growled at me angrily. It was very scary. He was so much larger and could easily eat me, if he was that kind of dog. Which i really hoped he wasnt. When he asked his question i gulped, unable to speak for a moment
♥ I noticed as he looked down at his leg. So he had heard me. That was good. Well i guess i should have noticed when he turned ang growled at me. I was so stupid. I gathered my words quickly as he looked down at his leg for a few moments. When he looked back up, i answered. "I... I just saw your leg bleeding... so I... I thought it'd be a good idea to... to tell you..." i said, shivering so much i could hace shaken off all my fur if possible.
♥ This larger dog was making me nervous. Now i felt very stupid for approaching him. Why couldn't i learn to leave people alone? Why? Well it was in my nature as a pup. It sucked, really, but i guess it was a curse. I would get killed on day.

Gunth stood, stiff legged for a moment. Grunting he let his gaze drop from the trembling pup, to the dirty soil beneath paw, and than back to the puppy. He could tell by the way the little dog looked that they where nervous and scared. Lifting his muzzle to the sky, Gunth let his nostrils quiver, trying to scent the breeze. There was no other dog scent nearby, this pup was obviously alone. Lowering his head, Gunth huffed and relaxed his shoulders until he was standing normally again. Grumbling something to himself, the black Shepherd sighed and swung his long muzzle back and forth. Finally he spoke, "I can take care of myself" he growled, eyes watching the pup carefully. Snorting he whipped around and began to padd the opposite direction when suddenly he looked over his shoulder. Go back home puppy!" He barked lowly, Gunth had no time for pup stuff! He had to find food, and than get out of here. Without another word he began to limp slowly back to the place where he had entered the dump. Gunth yelped a bit as he half stumbled, pressing his paw into the dirty ground. Quickly he scrambled to his paws and shook his head madly, growling once again he padded forward.

♥ I stood stock still as the larger dog looked from me to his paw. I gulped, almost falling back to a sitting position. My fur bristled slightly, but not out of anger, out of fear. My ears were pressed to my skull and my eyes were very wide. Why was this dog so angry with me.
♥ I was just a little pup who tried to help him. I mean, it was a stupid act i had performed that could have gotten me killed, but i did it because i was worried. I didn't like death. I hated it. If this dog were to even so muh as faint from the loss of blood, i would feel guilty. It was just how I was.
♥ I heard him yell in my drietion that he could take care of himself. A few moments later he said, over his should, for me to home. "Where?" i whispered harshly under my breath. I was clearly an alone pup, with nowhere to go. I whined and lay down in that very spot. Fear and drained hunger from me. What was i to do now?

Gunth stopped dead in his tracks, his leg muscles trembled slightly, had the pup said what he thought she'd said? The black shepherd let his tail lay still against his hindquarters, head lowered. His mouth parted as he tried to think of something to say, "what do you mean where?" Was all that came out. Gunth blinked and stared at the wooden gate before him refusing to look at the pup. Was it possible that this puppy had no home to go to? The large male dog sighed and shook his head, memories of his pup hood memories came flooding back into his head. Walking the street alone on a cold starless night, hungry, scared and most of all alone. He closed his eyes and pinched them tight, trying to shut out the cold thoughts. Gunth remembered all to well what it felt like, to have no home, it was the way he had lived his life. When he reopened his eyes, a tint of pity showed clearly, Gunth growled angrily at himself for thinking like that. Even if this pup had no home, what could he do? He didn't have anywhere to go and was starving himself!

♥ I looked up as the dog spoke. What did i mean where? he had asked. I began to think this dog eas soft in the head. What i meant by where was the fact i had nowhere to go. Butn if course, i knew better thyan to reply thiys where. Instead, with all the innocence i had, i simply said; "I don't have a home...".
♥ I looked down at my paws with this, pressing them into the dirt. I then shifted my eyes around wearily. This dog didn't seem to like pups very much. But i took a second glance at him. He, though muscular and strong, looked vary hungry. I understood then that, if this dog had no food for himself, how in the world could he help a pup like me?
♥ I looked up, my ears went back apologeticly, though he wasn't looking my way. I didn't say i was sorry though. I would think he would snap at me again with something like; "Sorry for what?". I wasn't prepared for anything else like that.

Gunth blinked, slowly he lowered his head and starred at the soil. He had known what the pup had meant all along, but to hear her say she was homeless made him angry with himself. True he had wandered the streets alone as a puppy, true he had no food, but he couldn't just leave the puppy here, could he? Grunting, the black shepherd lifted his head and looked over his shoulder, the pup was crouched low to the dirty ground. Than Gunth looked up to the sky, there was still a long cold night before daylight. For a while he thought, finally he turned around, muscles aching from standing so long. He looked at the pup with interest and for a only a moment his eyes showed a glint of warmness before it was gone. "I..." Gunth stopped as if trying to figure out if what he was about to say was right. Than he started again, "come with me" he barked rather quietly, he couldn't believe he had actually said that! Huffing, he began to limp forward, quickly he added, "unless you would rather stay here" Gunth snorted. Padding onward, he walked up to the fence and began to push his way through wondering if the puppy would really follow him.

♥ I looked up as the larger dog said something. I noticed just a little gentle look in his eyes before he spoke again. I could have jumped up in happiness as he said "come with me" but i resisted. I didn't want to be too much of a nuisance. That wouldn't be right. Not when he was going to help me, if he was. For all I knew, he could be taking me somewhere and leave me there, or he could kill me. But those thoughts never crossed my mind. I figured this large dog had good in his heart. Especially if he would take the time to help me out.
♥ As he began to trot forward, i followed contently, but silently. I couldn't help a silly grin from crossing my face, I was just so happy about it. So i just walked on in silence. But obviously, with me being a pup, there was no way i could stay silent for long.
♥ So what's your name? i blurted out with a tiny smile on my face. I'm Cleo, I said, answering before he could. I just wanted to get to know this dog. Could you blame me? I was so little and innocent... and i guessed that if i got annoying or f he didn't want to tell me, he would make it clear. I just hoped he would tell me his name, but would uinderstand if he didn't. Who wants to make friends with an annoying pup right?

Gunth nose quivered and he pitched his black ears forward, the pup seemed very delighted that he had told her to come with him. He snorted with a bit of humor when the pup began speaking again, it wasn't a surprise. "I'm Cleo" she had said, the shepherd rolled his eyes, what had he gotten himself into! For a moment he ignored her before he finally said, "Gunth, I go by Gunth" he grunted simply. Usually he didn't tell other dogs his name, but Cleo was a puppy, what harm could she do? Gunth looked up at the sky once more, now dark gray clouds had covered the moon and he winced as a single drop of rain splattered on his nose. Shaking his head, Gunth began picking up the pace, eager to get somewhere where they could stay out of the rain. The big black dog usually slept out in the alleyways, but with the rain coming, and the pup he would have to find somewhere else to lay down for the night. Steadily the few sprinkles became more and more frequent, until Gunth could feel it all over his body. He growled, soon the downpour would start.

♥ I listened quietly as the large male announced his name. I nodded smiling rapidly, then tilted my head. "Is that short for something?" I asked. This was my usual question when another told me their name. I njust always liked to know. I was thinking it would be short for Gunther, and of course I wouldn't call him that unless he wanted me to.
♥ I hadn't noticed it was raining until i began falling behind Gunth. I had to speed up to a little jog to keep my pace with him. Otherwise i would lose sight of nhim, and get lost, then probabnly be eaten by another dog. Or at least killed by one. With this thought, i decided not to complain about thye speed he was going and just continue onward with my mouth shut.
♥ In glanced up at Gunth, and gulped. He could most definitely eat me if he wanted to, but i didn't think he would Especially not now, since he was helping me. I still wondered why he wanted to help me out. I would understand a little disable dog that was blind and had a leg deformation. But me? I couldn't imagine why.
♥ I shook my head, trying to focus on the preasant. I didn't want to let my mind wander too far. If i did that i would most certainly lose sight of Gunth. I decided to try to keep him talking so i wouldn't keep drifting off to lala land. "I got my name from my Mommy," I nsaid smiling happily. I was huffing a little, but hadn't noticed. "Her name was Kalina, so they decided to name me Cleo, cause it sounded a little like hers,". Actually, i had made that part up. I wanted to make it sound a little interesting. I actually got my name from an egyptian queen named Cleopatra. But i'd rather think i was named after my mother.

Gunth's facial expression hardly changed as the pup spoke, he kept his eyes strained forward without so much as a glance at Cleo. He had noticed that she talked, alot! He looked away and groaned, low enough so she couldn't hear it. "How long will I have to put up with this?" He wondered bitterly. Shaking his head, Gunth looked over at Cleo, she had finally stopped talking and was waiting for him to answer her first question. The black shepherd mouthed some words as he recalled the question, than he shook his head. "No..." he replied, "its just Gunth" Gunth mumbled to himself, at least thats what he thought anyway. Impatiently he looked around and noted the new surroundings. The ground beneath paw was worn down asphalt, weeds grew wildly through the cracks and the buildings where smaller. He noticed that many where practically falling down and covered from the bottom up in thick vines. From the looks of the place, it could have been abandon even before the humans disappeared! Gunth felt the steady fall of rain drops on his back and he put his ears flat against his skull in annoyance. They would have to find someplace around here to stay.
